Sludge treatment

Sludge inerting plants are built both for the treatment of sludge of an industrial nature, i.e. with low organic content, and for the treatment of sludge from civil sewage treatment plants.

EFFICIENCY AND CONTROL

Sludge inerting plants

The objective of the plant is to modify the characteristics of the sludge itself by the addition of appropriate reagents that promote its dehydration Depending on the type of sludge, its moisture content and the type of inerting desired, the inerting agents that can be added are hydrated lime, lime oxide, sulphuric acid cement, calcium carbonate and CO₂.

Sludge systems typically feature large hoppers for sludge reception and dosing, sized and designed for wheel loader feeding, integrated with screw or belt conveyors that transport the material to a continuous mixer – which, depending on the application, can be a paddle or ploughshare mixer. Within this, the appropriate reagents are dosed – in some cases sulphuric acid may be added to neutralise the alkaline component – which, by mixing homogeneously with the sludge, reduce its pollutants and wet content so that it can be easily stored and used for other purposes.
